DESCRIPTION:

A collaboration between myself and the charity TRAID. I designed what at first glance looks like a cloudy sky. A patchwork of words weaved into clouds to visualise the charity’s textile related work and means of fundraising.

Amongst the white silver lining lay the positive words that represent the good work of TRAID. In the middle the colour darkens to a grey to remind you of a cloud brewing where the negative text lies. The installation for late winter and early spring plays on the typical cold weather this time of year and highlights the goals and reflecting difficult issues as brief snap shots for the public.

Working in charity is a challenging business environment with the constant demand of donations, volunteering, and campaigning to raise awareness and money for those who need it most.

DETAIL:

Nimbus is made up of hexagon tiles that link together resembling a pixelated cloud. Plaster Hexagons cast from rubber silicon and latex moulds link together from the back where they are then stitched tightly together with wire and supported by a central beam.

Motivated by the charity’s ethos, materials and construction were recycled and reused. Nails pulled from rotting timber, old wire from rubbish tips, and waste wood from skips, which also kept the budget extremely low.

The hooks, stitching and moulds as seen, were all produced in-house (literally) over a months period.

  • Cloud 2: Donation, Reuse vs. Waste Landfill

  • Cloud 3: Education, Recycled, Sustainable, vs. Climate Change

  • Cloud 4: TRAIDremade, Vintage vs. Consumption
