DESCRIPTION:
An array of illuminated LED panels encompass the location of an organic flowing surface of colour and form. creating a mesmerising shimmer that changes from yellow to pink as one moves around the kiosk.
An almost invisible sculpted layer of polycarbonate wraps in front of the panels creating a smooth finish to touch, yet a layered texture to view that reflects the bustling surrounding airport.
DETAIL:
Each of the 643 light panels was assembled in house, built up from white LEDs, a diffuser, dichroic film and masks of different species of butterfly. Before the final build we focused on a production line assembling these panels in our clean workshop.
Then working alongside the fabricators in their warehouse building the main frame, we prepared a full dry run of the kiosk: pulling cables, tapping holes, attaching connectors, testing power before dismantling and installing it in Stansted airport.
