DESCRIPTION:
Conceived as a play between invisible light sources and the crescent of the moon. As one moves about the chandelier it will at times appear to consist of nothing more than crystal balls which from within begin to reveal a never-ending beautiful array of crescent shapes generated by the lighting layers within.
The chandelier is the result of a playing with light, form, perception and technology. The incredible flatness of the lighting layer, is used to great effect, except, in a radically inventive step, it has been embedded within a precisely turned and hand polished acrylic sphere.
DETAIL:
Common to all work of Cinimod studio is the attention to detail and precision engineering involved in the design. I would paint, draw up, and build custom parts needed for the chandelier when being exhibited or installed into unique homes.
Myself and a colleague would go through full pre-wiring and builds in the workshop jigging the space at client’s request along with prepared drawings from site visits.
The chandelier went on to win the Best Luminaire at Lighting Design Awards, 2014.
