DESCRIPTION:
Animal City are stackable wooden building blocks based around animal forms. The shapes inspire children to think about the animals associated with them hinting a starting point to build from.
The child inspired by the animal forms learns how simple shapes can represent any number of things. They learn through play how to jumble up these shapes and create their own animals and creatures.
DETAIL:
The design started life with pen and paper sketches before moving to (.3DM) to tweak and modify. The first prototypes were tested with friends and family.
We sourced very old and dry beech before plotting out and cutting the final designs using a band-saw and drill. Dyes were tested, mixed, and sampled before the Animal City parts were dipped, dyed and dried for play.
The project was exhibited at Doing It For The Kids by [re] design, an exhibition at 100% Design for sustainable play design.
