DESCRIPTION:

Digital Shimmer is a three-dimensional lighting sculpture in which colour, form and perception are manipulated to achieve a mesmerising colour display.

It is the ‘digital’ evolution to earlier “shimmer” artwork which continues the same fascination with colour studies and movements but this time through electronic control.

A continuously evolving palette of colours move around and inside the mathematically designed circular geometries. Highly controlled hidden lighting synthesises an endless variation of colours creating new studies and combinations that create shifts in perception for the viewer.

Once the design had been agreed, most of the fabrication was produced in-house excluding spun aluminium and GRG moulding.

I would paint, sand, and treat the GRG and bowls and design custom housing for internal electronics.

I bonded and reinforced the steel to machined MDF and finally painted the sculpture to a high finish. I would then either install the artwork into an art fair or private collector home.
